5 Steps to Owning Your Daily Practice

Carve out 20 Minutes [ideally in the morning] that’s just for you and make it a “non-negotiable”. Sometimes it means getting up early before your family and “life” gets in the way.

Believe me, as a chronic “stay in bed Mom” who’s child started packing his lunch before kindergarten, I get it… But grounding yourself before the day happens to you sets a certain tone that makes you more capable of tackling the big and little things.

1 ] Find a quick grounding yoga routine that works for you and doesn’t feel stressful [and it can be super quick]. I keep my yoga mat by the bed so I can basically just roll onto it as soon as I wake up. It can be as simple as a few sun salutations or even just some feel good stretches and a restorative pose [childs pose and legs up the wall are some of our favorites].

2 ] Focus on Gratitude - Whether you’re journaling or just mentally taking note of what you’re grateful for, gratitude helps keep the “Big Picture” in focus.

3 ] Meditate!!!! - Even if it’s just 5 minutes. Take the time to be with yourself. Notice how your breath is moving and what feelings come to light. There are lots of great meditation apps out there and guided meditation videos on youtube.

4 ] Set an intention for the day. Small, measurable goals over time = BIG RESULTS!!! It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all of the to do lists and should’s and shouldn’ts and life that happens.

5 ] Give yourself a break!!!! Not sure where I heard/read this but it really stuck with me: “Some days, just showing up and getting through the day is enough.”

Some days you’re on top of the world, you’re fulfilled in your job and your family life. You’re inspired, ideas are rolling, your jeans fit great [and you’re even wearing jeans and not strechy pants!!!!!], and there’s plenty of time to do all of the things…

Other days are hard or boring, we make mistakes and we don’t feel good enough, there isn’t enough time and we just don’t feel like our best selves…. but you’ve got to love the good and the bad, accept the dark and the light because they can only exist together. Just pat yourself on the back keep on keeping on because you are and always will be enough!
